Something Light After a Heavy Week

Over a month ago, my hubby and two daughters traveled back to New England to visit family. I stayed behind to take care of our animals … and take advantage of being alone to work on projects that would have gotten in people’s way. So, I’m sharing the result of those projects with you here. A bit of whimsy after a string of heavy days.

In one of the easier projects, I changed out our hard-to-see house numbers. Later, Hubby replaced the overhead light. I bought the numbers at Hobby Lobby several months ago, figuring I’d simply screw them onto the house wall like the original numbers. But I knew the holes wouldn’t align, which meant filling in old holes and drilling new ones, so then I had the idea of placing them on a board and only drilling two new holes into my house. Plucking a board remnant from an earlier project from my garage, I cut it to fit, lightly spray-painted it with white paint I had on hand, followed up with some spray polyurethane, and voilà: house numbers our guests can now see from the road.

You might remember what I did to our bureaus in the master bedroom a while ago. They have matching bedside tables, so of course I had to update those. Finally!

These tray tables were originally dark brown. I bought them a year or two ago from Walmart for about $5 each, fully intending to cover the cheap vinyl surface with my fabric / mod podge / polyurethane trio. It took me longer than anticipated to get around to making them pretty (we kept using them, so it didn’t make sense to put them out-of-commission for days on end), but once I knew I’d have the house to myself for a chunk of time, this project made the “to-do-now” list. 😉

Lastly, I’ve been doing a lot of knitting now that my sequel is complete (writing-wise), and playing around with embroidery and embellishments on fingerless gloves and a couple of hats. (One hat isn’t yet complete, so it’s not in these groupings.) I figure these might make fun give-aways when I launch my book in October. Otherwise, I might try to sell them. We’ll see.

More gloves below awaiting some designs. I worked on the green ones yesterday.

And there you have it. This is what I’ve been up to while trying to stay sane in a world gone mad. As for Tinsel in a Twist, the ebook format is now available for pre-order on Apple, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Vivlio, and Tolino, so far. It’s awaiting approval on a few other platforms. I’m having some issues getting it up correctly on Amazon for pre-order, but thankfully I’ve got time to get that figured out.

I hope you all have a wonderful last few official weeks of summer. Feed your faith, not your fears, and as I heard one woman put it on a podcast yesterday, “Make Sense Common Again.” 😉

  1. I love how extremely capable you are!! I may start calling you “craft queen.”
The gloves are all so beautiful! Have you thought of putting anything German or Norwegian in design on some that are left?
I can hardly wait to get your new book ordered 😊
